BFG10K
is an insanely powerful fictional weapon appearing in the computer_games ''Quake_II'' and ''Quake_III_Arena''. It is named in homage to the BFG9000, a weapon in the earlier first-person_shooter ''DOOM'' considered a precursor of the Quake games. Its name is an acronym for ''"Big Fucking Gun 10000"'', a fact the designers of the games don't make very much noise about. It most closely resembles a cannon and is definitely a two-handed weapon only. Its kickback is considerably larger than those of other weapons, including a hand-held rocket launcher. When fired, a BFG discharges a large though relatively slow blob of plasma capable of destroying anything in its path. Using the weapon in close quarters is said to redefine the word "wallpaper." In ''Quake II'', the BFG10K is similar to the BFG9000, but the plasma ball also fires green lasers at anything it passes. The way of calculating the damage also differs from its previous version. In ''Quake III Arena'', the gun works quite differently. The energy blasts are released at a higher speed, but they still maintain a large splash damage radius. Some compare it to a more powerful Plasma_Gun.
